Professional hardwire dash cam fitting by Mobile Car BodyWorks Ltd. We are pleased to offer this service. A dash cam is a camera attached to front (or rear) of your car windscreen facing the road. It switches on when you start the engine and records your entire journey. Dash cam videos can be timestamped in a way that’s tamper-proof, making them a great source of evidence for any kind of road incident.
- Front view dash cams capture everything in front of you, including traffic you’re following. Simple affective.
- Front and back view (or front and rear) dash cams record the view in front and behind your car. Many accidents on the road happen at low speeds and involve rear-end collisions. Investing in dash cams that offer both views could be worth the extra spend in case you’re involved in an accident.
We can fit one of two configurations. (same cost as above)
Driving Mode (our recommendation) With this mode the dash cam is only powered with engine or ignition ON, no hardwire kit required.
Parking Mode (not suitable for Electric/Hybrid vehicles) With this configuration the dash cam will be powered with engine ON as well OFF. The dash cam will continue to be powered until the vehicle battery is depleted to a set minimum level. In our option this configuration is not recommended for vehicles older than five years, hardwire kit maybe required. Also not suitable for Electric/Hybrid vehicles.

Fitting Examples
A Nextbase 412GW dash cam was installed to a Ford Transit and configured in driving mode. It was permanently wired to the ignition fuse, meaning the camera will only start recording with the engine switched ON. Thus, preventing your battery from draining. This also minimises any unsightly wires and leaves your 12v socket (cigarette lighter) free for other uses.
Are dash cams legal?
Yes, they’re legal on UK roads. However, they mustn’t be installed where it blocks your view. As long as your camera does not block your view of the road then it is legal to have it installed in your car. Recording members of the public (and their registration numbers) is legal too. In the UK there is no expectation of privacy while in public.
Also, you have a legal duty to let passengers know if your business vehicle is fitted with a cabin view camera. For example, if you’re a taxi driver or share a company car, and you use your car for family errands. Plus, most dash cams record sound and some can video record the inside of a vehicle. If someone else who has use of your car isn’t told they’re being recorded, you’re in breach of privacy laws.
Will it affect my warranty?
No, as we don’t cut any wires. Where possible we piggy back off the fuse or use splice connectors.
